Okay, so I'm playing with the NBA Trade Machine on ESPN, and just for the hell of it, I'm concoting a recipe with the main players of:
The Warriors The Heat The Grizzlies
WARRIORS: Need: Defense, a true shooter, smart and versatile player, size Tradeable Asset (Someone with trade value that they are willing to trade): Obviously Monta and Andris are available assets, but why would they get rid of them? Even for Garnett I wouldn't trade them. So, with that: Mickael Pietrus - he wants to go, he as value as a defender, versatility, and available Offensive game if he gets his minutes at his natural position. Al Harrington - Versatility on both ends, a match-up problem to defenders, long range, ability to defend bigger, and he wouldn't mind being a bigger piece of the offensive equation than he is now on the Dubs.
HEAT: Need: A lot. They need size, versatility.. basically, everything. Tradeable Asset: Dorell Wright - he's young, but they'll have access to a lot of young players with their draft position - plus someone who will probably make an immediate impact. Jason Williams - I don't see any team really wanting him, but he has an expiring contract that I'm sure the Heat would like to keep, but if they can get an impact player for it, why not?
GRIZZ: Need: Heart? Oh. They need a lot - but it looks like they're washing out the whole team so all big contracts must go. Tradeable Asset: Mike Miller - he's locked in for 2 1/2 more years at $8M plus.
So, with that, this is my three-way deal:
Warriors get Mike Miller. They need a REAL shooter. He plays smaller than Al, but he's only 1 inch shorter. He also has more assists and rebounds. He could easily fit Nellie's system. They'll give up more size on defense, but if he's giving up 2 pt shots to PFs he'll make it up with the open 3s he'll have in abundance. Plus, he's a versatile player and is better at getting to the hole than Al. Warriors also get Smush Parker as sort of a throw-in. He's only about $2M+ that the Heat will lose in an expiring contract, but I think adding Smush for extra perimeter defense may prove wise. If they don't get Smush, the trades are still solid. He could also spot BD down the stretch to keep BD fresh for the playoffs. He's a veteran. Nellie should trust him.
Heat get Pietrus and Al. They want Pietrus, although with Marion being there, this partnership might not make sense. I realized that in the middle of typing this so I can't go back. They also get Al. He can rotate with Haslem at the 4 and also with Marion at the 3. They can all get 35 minutes each with that rotation and they all present various assets on both ends.
The Grizz get Dorell Wright and Jason Williams' expiring contract. Dorell Wright looks good. The Heat may not want to get rid of a young player like him, but with Al and Marion playing that position, would there really be room. I mean, with Marion playing the 3, is there a place for Wright? He's perfect for a team needing young players. His contract's expiring. Memphis may lose him, but at this point, do they really care? Plus, has he shown enough to warrant a significant raise? Jason Williams, would again, be in the mix for his expiring contract that will allow Memphis to either sell the team and/or move.
